From pretty much the time she was born Kelsie has had goopy, watery eyes. People always think she is crying or has some sort of allergies. Her pediatrician, Dr. Crook, never seemed too concerned. He just said to keep an eye on it and if it was still bad by her first birthday then he'd refer us to an eye specialist. Well...she turned one in November and the goopy eyes remain.
Today we met with Dr. Walvick at Kaiser. He first examined her eyes and then decided to dilate them to give her a full exam. After the initial exam we had to wait a full 30 minutes for her eyes to dilate. Not to fun with both Logan & Kelsie with limited snacks and toys. I didn't have to be anywhere, but I didn't think the appointment would take that long!
Results: Her eyes are healthy, she doesn't appear to need glasses or anything, but she does have "nasolacrimal duct obstruction" (clogged tear ducts) in both eyes. Apparently only 10% of kids have clogged ducts in both eyes. I guess our little Kelsie is just special. :)
Next, Dr. Walvick decided to swab her eyes to test the tears for something which was not a big deal, but then we had to walk it to the lab ourselves which was in a different building on the second floor. He also prescribed Kelsie some eye drops. The pharmacy was in a totally different building with a LONG wait. (again not fun with 2 little ones who were hungry by this point) She will be taking the drops 3 times a day for one week and then cutting back to one drop a day for a week. Then we'll see if they did anything or not. If her eyes don't clear up within the next month or so we'll be meeting with Dr. Amato (eye surgeon) in late January to discuss surgery.
So keep little Kelsie in your prayers!

Good Luck, I hope it all clears up w/ the drops :)
Nick had the surgery when he was 9 or 10 months old, and I was real nervous, but his eyes are much better now :)
She has such pretty eyes!
