The same day, we made a trip up to North Plains, just a few miles North of Hillsboro. We were driving along Highway 26 and suddenly felt good about the area. I turned off and we ended up wandering around the hills between Cedar Mills and North Plains. We loved it. There are miles and miles of rolling hills and pines mixed with farm land. The houses are cheaper up there and it isn't that far from the shopping in Hillboro/Beaverton. The one drawback we ran into was the distance to groceries (about 20 mins). Not horrible, but certainly not convenient.
We also liked the city of Newberg, South of Tualatin/Wilsonville. It's physically separated from the rest of the metro area by a small range of mountains and protected forests. There aren't shopping areas there but there are basics such as Walgreens and Safeway. It seemed nice enough and the housing situation is a bit easier for us to get into with mid-sized lots/houses instead of the estates we were seeing in North Plains (pricing was about equal though).
All in all, it was a great trip and the take-away for us is that even though now isn't the time, we at least know two places we'd be very happy moving to when it is time.

(I'm going to let Kurt blog about this one...but since I'm sitting here, thought I'd post a few pictures!)

Oh I love the green lush pictures! It makes me miss Maryland!
I loved the baby post as well. Two years and two months seems just about perfect to me. It's funny because I'm already just a tiny tiny bit baby hungry, but I'm still so exhausted from chasing Madeline around now that she can move on her own. Oh boy. :)
Great pictures! I am glad you had a nice trip. I miss the shakes at Burgerville (there are a few, but closest is probably in Hillsboro). I forgot to tell you to go there. Next time you'll have to go. They have walla-walla onion rings there that are awesome, too.
