We left the condo at 6am, so drive to the Maalaea Harbor to board our boat (well catamaran) for our morning of snorkeling aboard the Four Winds II. Noah, Anissa, and mom (with the help of the girls) watched Logan for us, so we could go out just the 2 of us (Thanks!). Our final destination was Molokini. Molokini is a partially sunken volcanic crater just 2.5 miles off the coast of Maui, Hawaii. Molokini is now a beautiful underwater sanctuary for marine life. The water is crystal clear allowing views from 100-200 feet down.
Equipped with my mom's sea bands (for motion sickness), I thought I'd do just fine out on the boat. Well, sadly that wasn't the case. Kurt & I went out together for one round of snorkeling. We saw tons of gorgeous fish and had fun spending time together. Apparently, I am fin retarded...so Kurt was trying to teach me to use them correctly. My stomach started not feeling so great, so I decided to come in for a little bit. I then proceeded to make my way to the bathroom and puke my guts out (sorry for the details).
I decided to stick it out on the boat (since I puked again after lunch), while Kurt attempted SNUBA diving. It's a combination of snorkeling and scuba diving, the best part being you don't have to be scuba certified to go. He was able to dive down 20 feet, which doesn't seem very far, but he said it was pretty cool to look up and see people snorkeling way above him. The instructor also picked up a sea cucumber and let them hold it.
On the way back to the harbor we saw some awesome sea turtles. Sadly, my camera didn't take the picture fast enough to see them out of water. But it was pretty cool! Once we were back to the condo (after a stop at Taco Bell...since my lunch didn't stay in my stomach) we found everyone back at the pool. We decided to join in on the fun and play with Logan. He LOVES the water now. He even was jumping off the stairs and having us catch him.
After a nap and showers we decided to go out to dinner on our last night on the island. Yelpers gave Kimos good reviews so we headed there. I ordered a Teriyaki steak (delicious!) and Kurt had the "Big Eye" (Ahi Tuna, cooked on the outside, still raw in the middle). They also served us sourdough rolls, carrot muffins, and caesar salad. Logan especially loved the carrot muffins.
Lastly, every reviewer said you had to order the Hula Pie...so of course we did! "Billed as "the dessert the sailors swam ashore for in Lahaina" this is a dessert that was developed at Kimo's long ago, and has been pleasing even the heartiest of dessert eaters ever since. Hula Pie is made with Kimo's favorite macadamia nut ice cream piled high on a chocolate cookie crust and topped with chocolate fudge, whipped cream, and more macadamia nuts." mmmmmmmmm
