It seems like I update our day to day activities a lot, but someone coming across our blog would probably have no about what we really do if that makes sense.
Kurt currently works for VMware , a software company in Palo Alto, CA, as an XML Tools Developer. I can't explain specifically what he does (he'd have to do that), but I know he writes programs/makes tools to make people's jobs easier. He's loved working there (most of the time) the past 3 years. I can't believe we've actually lived here that long! We've been blessed that while a lot of other companies in the bay area are closing or having MAJOR layoffs, VMware was been pretty safe--not to say there hasn't been cutbacks due to the economy, but we consider ourself very blessed. We know this is where we are supposed to be for the time being, but do plan on moving to the Portland area next Spring. We have mixed feelings about that...we're excited to be homeowners again, live somewhere we don't have to send our kids to private school, etc., but we have made some amazing friends here and who doesn't love the bay area weather?
Kurt's other fulltime job is our ward Young Mens President. As a youth Kurt hated Scouting/Mutual...pretty much his teenage years, so it's been fun to see him grow in this calling the past couple years. In his "free" time, Kurt still likes to dable in photography and is becoming quite the political blogger. The whole proposition 8 thing here in California got Kurt started.
I guess I'm next. The kids obviously keep me busy most of my days. I seriously could not ask for better kids. Logan is an active kid, but in a good way if that makes sense. Kelsie is the world's happiest baby, but I can already tell her personality is going to be WAY different than Logan's. At church I serve as our Stake Primary Secretary. It's been a fun calling (especially because it caused me to be released from teaching Gospel Doctrine!). It's interesting though because I haven't even served in a ward Primary Presidency... I also am starting a new assignment working with our stake Name Extraction program. I've been slow getting started because of stupid allergies, vacations, house guests, etc...but I am really excited.
A few friends and I have also started a weekly preschool for our kids. It ends in a couple weeks for summer break, but its been a lot of fun. Logan has learned a lot, especially being one of the youngest kids, but I think it's been just as much fun for us moms. We need time to socialize too! This summer we're going to start into weekly parkdays.
In my "free" time I love to scrapbook. I'm excited to get back into it. I recently took on a major project of working on 3 scrapbooks for a client. I felt guilty working on my own stuff with hers still sitting on my table, so sadly I've fallen behind. I hate that feeling. I usually scrapbook pictures as I print them. My ward has organized scrapbook days a couple times a month which I attend regularly...and as soon as Kelsie is consistently sleeping through the night I'm sure her naptime will turn into my scrapbook time. Right now I sleep any moment I can get.
Logan is starting to be more and more a boy, and less toddlerish. He's 2 1/2. He speaks with full sentences, knows his alphabet, can count to about 20 more or less, and is growing nicely into his big brother role. Latest obsessions: "A Bugs Life", trains, Scooby Dooby Doo Where are you?, dinosaurs, firetrucks, etc.
Kelsie is 6 months old! Where does the time go? She is rolling all over the place and is working on crawling. She loves to stare at Bronx (our dog) and pull Logan's hair. She also puts EVERYTHING she gets her hands on into her mouth...something Logan never did. We're still adjusting. I can tell we're going to have to keep a closer eye on her than we did with Logan.
