Kurt accepted a job with VMware almost 4 1/2 years ago, moving my 6 1/2 month pregnant self and Bronx (our dog) with him to Union City. Kurt and mom picked out the house and signed the rental contract without me even seeing it. My first walk through was after we pulled into the driveway with the moving van. I remember at first it was a huge adjustment coming from rural very white and Mormon Payson, Utah, to urban and very diverse Union City. It was strange seeing all of the men with turbans walking to the mosque down the street for their daily prayers as opposed to the rednecks at Walmart. During our first week here we saw an undercover cop bust someone outside a store (next to the shipping store). It was a big adjustment at first, but I wouldn't change a thing for the world.
While I won't necessarily miss the "house" we live in...this was the first and only "home" we've brought our babies home to. It's the only home they know.
We have had I think our happiest years as a married couple in this house. The stresses of college life, infertility, worrying about bills (most of the time), etc. were gone. We have been able to attend the temple more often (when I wasn't nursing at least...), serve in our ward and stake in callings, and make wonderful memories with each other and our children.
We have truly gained a second family with our Coyote Hills and Union City ward friends. On several occasions we have been able to call on friends at the last minute for babysitting, priesthood blessings, meals, movie nights, play dates, help with church callings, etc. I going to miss having some of my best friends an arms length away. I'm so glad we're only moving an hour away or I don't think I'd be able to handle everything so well!
I know we were supposed to be in Union City and we were supposed to be here these last four years. Our "other son" Nick needed to be here to make the necessary life changes for him. We needed to be here to be strengthened as a family.
I now know it's time for us to move on. Union City will no longer be our home. We're off for a fresh start and a new chapter in Boulder Creek. Wish us luck!
