Ups and Downs

Well, I thought the blog needed an update, so here I go.

We moved into our new house exactly a week ago.  This last week has definitely had its up and downs.  Sadly, probably more downs than ups (at least financially).  Don't get me wrong, we LOVE the house...we're just ready for some happy news.

  1. Washer drain doesn't work.  Found that out the day after we moved in.  Luckily our realtors bought us a home warranty, so it should cover the cost for any repairs.  Sadly, the plumber was supposed to show up today and didn't.  He rescheduled for this coming Tuesday.
  2. Our dog ate something really bad and has barfed all over my new carpet several times.  The poor little guy lost close to 2 pounds, which is a lot when you weigh close to 9 pounds.  Kurt took him to the vet yesterday.  We're still not sure what he ate, but he's doing a little better today.  They wanted to charge Kurt $1000 and keep Bronx hooked up to an IV overnight, but he wasn't about to let that happen.  We took the poor man's do it a home approach for $250.
  3. Good thing!  Kurt and I (mainly Kurt) were able to remove the ugly build-in entertainment center ourselves Wednesday night.  A local contractor wanted to charge us $200-$300 to do it.
  4. After removing the entertainment center, we placed ours where we planned for it to go, only to find out that you can't see the TV from the loveseat.  No cool.  We just had to fork out more money for a new entertainment center. :(  I listed the old entertainment center on craigslist and haven't received any inquiries yet. :(
  5. Today we went to 3 lumber yards trying to find supplies for our new banister (that is replacing the entertainment center thing) with NO luck.  Apparently, no one builds their own banisters?  Very frustrating, especially since we had both kids with us.
I will have to say through everything, I have the best husband ever.  He has spent every extra minute possible working on the house or doing something for me.  Today alone, he went to 4 different hardware stores/lumber yards, installed a septic riser, blew off the entire roof and super long driveway, helped me hang a dozen pictures on the wall, bathed the kids, and taken care of his puppy dog.

Our dog did that when we moved too. She threw up everyday for what seemed like a month! Good luck!

He always goes right to Death's doorstep right away and then bounces back like nothing happened. Seriously, just a lot of fluids and a couple of antibiotic shots was all it took. He's back to normal (mostly).

I bet Kurt is happy to be fixing up a house that you own though! It's awesome that he helps so much
