33

My amazing husband turned 33 last Thursday.  Crazy to think we met 12 years ago.
It's Kurt's company policy to have you birthday off from work, but Kurt was scheduled to have a client visit that day. :(  He thought he'd be home super late, but since he got away a little earlier than planned I let the kids stay up to wish him a Happy Birthday and let him open up his presents.
The kids made him cute birthday cards.  I asked them a bunch of questions about their dad.  Some of their answers were hilarious.

What does Daddy do for fun?
"He always swings with me." - Kelsie
"He usually likes to fight." - Logan

What does Daddy do at work?
"He works on the computer." - Logan
"He works. He eats food." - Kelsie

What are his favorite things to eat?
"Sushi" - Logan & Kelsie

What does he like to drink?
"Rootbeer" - Logan & Kelsie

How old is Daddy?
"I'm not sure, but maybe he's 12." - Logan
"6" - Kelsie

How tall is Daddy?
"If I stand on the couch, he's that big." - Logan
"Big" -Kelsie

What is Daddy's hair like?
"It's black" - Logan
"Cut" - Kelsie

How much does he weigh?
"50 pounds" - Logan

What makes Daddy the best?
"He fights good.  He plays Star Wars good and he can shoot good on the shooting games." - Logan
"He's my best friend." -Kelsie

What is your favorite thing to do with Daddy?
"Fight and watch him play Star Wars." -Logan
"Swing and dance." -Kelsie

How long have you known Daddy?
"For 1,000 years" -Logan
"For 14." -Kelsie

Where did you and Daddy meet?
"When I was little." - Logan
"At the sushi place." -Kelsie

Kurt got some clothes to wear to work this summer and a few surprises including Raisin Bran and beef jerky.  It's amazing how exciting one can get over simple things when you haven't had them in a while.

We decided we needed to keep on celebrating Kurt's birthday. :) Friday I made a lemon meringue pie and some fresh strawberry mini-pies.  They turned out super yummy.  I used my mother-in-law's amazing recipes and her crust finally turned out for me!  Kurt was so excited.

We were going to go out to lunch on Saturday, but the restaurant we wanted to go to was booked, so we decided to postpone and celebrate today!  We found a Brazilian restaurant in Shibuya - Tucanos.  Kind of funny that it has the same name as a favorite restaurant in Provo.  The food was delicious.  Even better news was that they didn't charge us for the kids!

On our way home we stopped to have our picture taken with Hachiko.

Hachiko's story:
In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo, took in Hachikō, a golden brown Akita, as a pet. During his owner's life, Hachikō greeted him at the end of each day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return. The professor had suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage and died, never returning to the train station where Hachikō was waiting. Every day for the next nine years the dog waited at Shibuya station.
Hachikō attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen Hachikō and Professor Ueno together each day. They brought Hachikō treats and food to nourish him during his wait. This continued for nine years with Hachikō appearing precisely when the train was due at the station.
Hachikō died on March 8, 1935, and was found on a street in Shibuya.[5] In March 2011 scientists settled the cause of death of Hachikō: the dog had terminal cancer and a filaria infection (worms). There were also four yakitori sticks in Hachikō's stomach, but the sticks did not damage his stomach or cause his death.[6][7]
Hachikō's stuffed and mounted remains are kept at the National Science Museum of Japan in Ueno, Tokyo."

I love the kids responses to the questions. So funny! Kelsie is picking up on the Asian peace sign in her pictures.
