So you may or may not have known that we've had plans for quite a while to move to the Portland, Oregon area in Spring 2010. In fact we already have a hefty down payment for a house (thanks to VMware's IPO & money made on our previous home sale in Payson, UT), towns narrowed down we'd like to live in, and a few companies that Kurt could work for. Well those plans are on hold at least for now.
Sadly we also know that we're NOT supposed to stay in the Bay Area long-term. :( We have loved living here FAR MORE than we ever thought we would and will be super sad to leave. We know that we'll be here at least until the fall, and then who knows.
Earlier this week Kurt had a strong feeling that we should do some research and look into other areas. So...we thought we'd ask for help! If you could live anywhere in the US, where would you live and WHY?
P.S. Portland still make work out, but we're looking into other options as well.

ive heard of this place in central california called bakersfield. there's probably nothing kurt could do here for work. but i sure know of a cousin who'd love to have family nearby :)
Portland is wonderful. There's places up there, around Portland that I think you'd be very happy in. My husband has family in Grants Pass, Oregon - that's where I'd love to live. It's a couple hours from the sea, is hot during the summer and mild through the winter. I love it there.
Stuart parents live in Marysville, WA which is also a really nice area. The climate is much different there - it rains from October through May but is lovely and lush and green. The summers get nice and toasty.
I know in both area's there's a lot of LDS people.
Whatever/Wherever you choose is going to be such an adventure :)
You should move up by us...your mom would love that. What about UT?
utah is out - too hot in the summer. Ideally, we'd like to find somewhere that stays between 35-90 all year if possible (as a min and max, not average highs!).
We've been spoiled pretty bad here in the Bay. So yeah, going somewhere with extreme temps wouldn't be a good idea for us...
That also rules out Sacramento and Bakersfield... sorry guys.
I love living in Arkansas, I know that is far from family, but the job market here is very stable, and the housing market is doing well. Wal-Mart is a great company to work for and the church is really strong.
Vegas?! ;) We miss the bay area so much! Nothing beats the weather, beauty and culture that is for sure! Vegas is close to everything. (CA, UT, etc.) And you can always find cheap flights out of here to visit anyone anywhere! :)
Just buy a house with a pool...you can get screamin deals on homes here!!! You guys could live in a mansion!! lol
