Durbin Day (or YEAR!)

Saturday was Durbin Day at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.  Since learning James Durbin was from Santa Cruz, I told Kurt that if he made it into the top 3 on American Idol that I totally wanted to go to his hometown visit. I was so bummed on Thursday when they announced he was booted from the show, especially because he didn't deserve to be.  Anyways, Santa Cruz decided that they wanted to throw him the party anyways and American Idol gave him the OK to come home.

I called up my fellow American Idol friend Tanya and we were on our way!!!  The crowds were crazy.  They estimated that 30,000 people were there (I heard they were only expecting 15-20,000)!  We were lucky to squeeze in between a couple nice groups of ladies.

We waited for a while for James to show up.  Apparently he was stuck signing autographs, etc, at his previous stops.  When he arrived the Mayor greeted him on stage and proclaimed it "Durbin Year" and gave him a surfboard to the city (instead of a key...).  The only bummer was that he only say 3 songs.  But afterwards as people were clearing out he headed up closer to the stay for some closer pictures. :)
