A Brief Tour of Central Japan

By Kurt:
I took a business trip via the Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Osaka and then back to Nagoya. On the way, I was reminded how snowy Japan can be along the central corridor (Chuo region). Nagoya showed the first signs of snow as seen from the train at Nagoya station in the morning:

As we left the station and headed into Gifu-ken, the snow became a bit thicker. This shot is of Gifu on the outskirts of the city:

And then Ogaki, a place I lived for several months in 1999.
Ibiden. Many of my Brazilian friends in Ogaki worked at this exact factory. They make electronic components 24/7. Many people worked day and night shifts alternating every other week.

And then we headed into the Sekigahara hills area. This particular area is very famous in Japan's history. And the snow was pretty epic to boot.  I started to wonder if I should have brought boots instead of dress shoes!

Not long after we left the woods and hills, the snow completely stopped and then there was green grass in the fields (not this picture, but there were gardens shortly after this).

After my brief day trip to Osaka, we returned via Shinkansen to Nagoya and stayed in the Crowne Plaza Hotel. My room ended up being on the 23rd floor. Not a bad view from my bedroom window for the night:
