Will Proposition 8 Bring More Government or Less Government Into Your Life?

There's a "No on 8" ad running in California right now that claims that NOT passing Proposition 8 means we'll be keeping "government out of all our lives".

Let's see... The Federal Government decides the decision of Gay Marriage is a "State's Issue". The people of California make a decision by vote in a legal, formal ballot in 2000. Who overturns that vote? 4 San Francisco Judges from our Government.

So, let's say the people decide to make their voice heard again. What happens if Proposition 8 doesn't pass this time around? Can *we*, the religious right, expect the government to step in and protect our rights when they trampled them under before? Not likely. However, if Prop 8 passes, can we expect them to fix the codified laws discriminating against gay couples? ABSOLUTELY! Why wouldn't they? If they can't redefine gay couple's unions as "marriages" (as I've stated before, the equivalent of redefining "Black" as "White" to secure equality) on the state constitution, they'll lobby to change the laws that grant (and I agree that this isn't just) benefits to heterosexual marriages.

So why trample under religion and lie to ourselves about the real problem here: Codified legislation granting unequal benefits to certain couples. Vote YES on Proposition 8 to preserve religious freedom and rites and then work to solve the bigger problem, together. That's right. While I don't condone the acts of homosexuality, I do tolerate and love those who do participate in it and I believe they deserve the same rights as I do from the government. However, I don't believe churches or private individuals should be forced to recognize it as being on equal moral footing with traditional marriage. If "gay marriage" were part of our constitution, it would mean that schools and churches must recognize it AND teach that it is morally equal to traditional marriage. This is an infringement on religious rights.

Want to keep government out of our lives? Vote YES on Proposition 8!
