Oh Boy! Camping! (sort of...)

So, last night we went camping. In our back yard.

We were looking for a place somewhere close but cooler earlier in the week but, wouldn't you know it, they're all booked. Surprise. The backyard was our fall-back and we were both ok with that with a 2 year old.

Well, I got home on Friday night and found out the Rachel had booked a hair appointment at 7pm about 20 mins South of here. All I had to do, though, was set up camp, start a fire, and feed Logan while she was gone. Simple, right? Right.

I started a fire with the kindling in our ground level bbq and then set to work on the tent and sleeping arrangements. Rachel left before this so I was busy making sure Logan didn't go up in flames while wrestling with 2 sleeping bags and an air mattress inside our 3 man tent. Fun. Also, none of the dinner stuff was out of the house so I was running back and forth for things while cooking on the far end of our lot. Great fun.

By the time Logan and I were finished with our hotdogs, it was dark and time for him to go to bed. I put him down after telling him a story by the fire and saying prayers. It was nice and quiet and by about 9:30 I was wondering if Rachel would ever come home. Of course, right about then she did and came outside and Bronx barked at her and then she loudly asked where Logan was. Of course, he was immediately awake again and climbing out of the tent to see what all the racket was about.

We had smores together around the fire and I kept thinking all the sugar probably wasn't the best idea for our little tike. I was right on. By about 10:30p we were fed up with wrestling with the little squirming/screaming wrecking ball. He was hysterical and acting like the walls were closing in on him. So, I got out of bed and took him to his crib.

At about 1:30, Rachel finally gave up trying to sleep in our "campsite" and heading in the house. I alone (with Bronx, of course) stayed the rest of the night, snug and warm in my HUGE sleeping bag on the 9" air mattress. I had one of the best, most peaceful night sleeps I've had in a LONG time. it was wonderful. I didn't even wake up until almost 9am.

So yeah, "We" "Camped" sort of. Some of us at least slept outside in what amounted to almost a campsite. It was a lot of fun, but I won't be attempting it again this year. Maybe next year...

For the record...I put up most of the tent before I left. And it wasn't my fault the haircut took so long! The appt before me had super long hair and decided that she wanted something else than what her appt was set for.

I don't think you'll have much luck year eather, with a new baby and all. I remember our first experiance camping with all 5 kids. It made me never want to camp again. The day stuff was fine, but at night, what a nightmare!! Good luck to you in the future.
