This morning we woke up bright and early to drive Kelsie to the Fremont Kaiser for her surgery. We arrived around 7:30am to get her admitted, etc. We were finally back in the surgery department around 8:30am. They had us change Kelsie into her little grown and booties. She was super cute and very calm, especially compared to the little girl screaming next to us.

Then they gave us a syringe of medicine to give (by mouth) to help knock her out. It basically made her drunk so she'd be calm enough for them to administer the rest of the anesthesia when they took her into the surgical room. Then Dr. Amato initialed Kelsie's eyes and drew her a happy face on her hand. :) There was a tiny bit of crusting on her left eye this morning, so we decided to have her go ahead and do the procedure on both eyes. Once they were ready, we sent her on her way with a super nice nurse.

When Kelsie woke up I wish I could say that she was bright and cheery, but that DEFINITELY wasn't the case. She screamed bloody murder for probably a good 30 minutes. They did warn us this would happen, but I don't think I was quite prepared for it. She cried not because she was in pain, but because she was confused from the anesthesia. Her right eye was also swollen shut.

Dr. Amato then came out and talked to us for a few minutes. She said that the procedure went relatively well. She was able to open up and clean up 3 of the 4 tubes really well, but the 4th one (in her right eye) is really small. She had to work a lot harder to clean it out, but was successful. Kelsie has a little more bruising in that eye due to the extra work. The bad news is that, there is a higher probability that she may require another surgery in the future to place a stent in it. :( We'll just have to wait and see over the next couple months and see what happens.

We were discharged and made it home around 11am. Kelsie fell asleep on the way home and napped for about an hour. She was in much better spirits after she woke up. After some food and another nap she is almost back to her normal self with a little bruising and a little bloody nose every once in a while.

you have a tough princess on your hands that's for sure! glad all went well!
I'm glad things went ok for you guys! I hope Kelsie recovers quickly. When Myra broke her arm and had to have surgery, she cried hysterically for over an hour afterwards, I'm sure from the confusion from the anesthesia. When finally had to put a movie on for her at 2 in the morning to get her to calm down. It's so hard when they don't understand and feel confused. Anyway, I hope things just get better for her from now on!
Sounds like that was a rough day, but glad she is doing better. Hopefully they won't have to do the stent.
